The award was presented by the Nero Wolfe Literary Society at the legendary annual Black Orchid Banquet held on December 2 in New York City. The Nero is given for the best mystery novel of the year, and is considered one of the premier awards granted to crime friction authors. It is named for the fictional detective Nero Wolfe in mysteries written by Rex Stout in the 1930s to 1960s. Past winners include Tony Hillerman, Louise Penny, Dennis Lehane, Laurie King, Michael Connelly, Walter Moseley, David Baldacci, and Lee Child.
The Day He Left was chosen by two teams of judges from among 56 other books submitted by American publishers.
The sculpture for the Nero Wolfe Award was designed in 1983 by Betsy Hatcher Manning. Ms. Manning based the sculpture style on Auguste Rodin’s sculpture of Balzac in the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

An audiobook of The Silenced Women is available now. The narrator is Laura Jennings, who has narrated many thrillers and mysteries, as well as other genres. She has a wonderful expressive voice, and I’m very pleased with her reading of my book. You can read about her and listen to voice samples. You can also read an interesting interview with her about the process of recording.
